On 27 March 2023, the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) notified St John Ambulance Victoria (St John) of further industrial action in respect to enterprise bargaining.

Five of the approved industrial actions commenced three weeks ago. These protected industrial actions focused on campaign messages being chalked on the truck windows, returning to branch for meals, a ban on overtime and a ban on accepting on call shifts.

We would like to congratulate our members for the way they have conducted themselves during these actions.

What are the new actions?

Commencing 0500 next Friday 31 March, three further actions will commence for an indefinite period. These are listed in the table:

We are confident that our members will continue to display a friendly approach in the event that their work-partner is not taking action.

Most members who have nominated the VAU as their bargaining representative and are partaking in industrial action have received T-shirts. We will distribute more as necessary. If you need another shirt because you work a lot of shifts, please contact us for assistance.

Have we heard any more from St John management?

The VAU was contacted last Wednesday 23 March 2023, by Rob McManus who expressed a keen interest in returning to the bargaining table. This will occur on Wednesday 29 March 2023.

The VAU will keep its members informed of any movement from St John especially in regard to the wage schedule and/or the Years of Service (YOS) increments.

What can I do while we wait?

We encourage our members to continue industrial action, commence the new actions (but not until 0500 Friday 31 March) and to remind any colleagues, who have not yet nominated the VAU as their bargaining representative, that they should do so. If you cannot find the form, please contact us, and we will send another form.

In Solidarity!
