REPORT ABOUT AMBULANCE VICTORIA STAFF IN HERALD SUN
As members would be aware, the Herald Sun newspaper published a story today regarding a current investigation being conducted by the Ambulance Victoria (AV) Professional Standards and Behaviours Department (PSBD).
The VAU is not representing the members involved in the matter contained in the article, the members are represented by Ambulance Managers Professionals Australia (AMPA) and the United Workers Union (UWU). Their members are still in the process of responding to allegations and are entitled to procedural fairness and confidentiality while going through this process. Anyone going through an investigation has a presumption of innocence until the matter is properly investigated.
All three unions have been contacted by people involved who are incredibly distressed at the information in the article. The members had all been contacted by AV last night and told that one of the unions had leaked this information to the media. This is categorically untrue.
The article in the Herald Sun cites senior sources from within AV and contains detailed information that could only come from senior levels within AV that are closely aligned to the investigation including information that has not been presented to the members involved. The article also included a carefully crafted narrative about how well the matter had been handled by the organisation.
The UWU, AMPA and VAU will be collectively writing to Government demanding an investigation into how information relating to a confidential investigation has been leaked to the media.
