International Women’s Day 2025
8 March 2025 is International Women’s Day. Celebrate it with us.
Despite previous advancements, female and non-binary ambulance workers, call takers and dispatchers still face barriers in the workplace. Our members continue to battle for flexibility to provide care to their children. The gender pay gap has led to many members in the industry heading into retirement with reduced super. Members continue to battle for promotion opportunities. As recently as June 2021, of the 446 MICA paramedics, only 21.5% were women. Members have battled poor uniform, PPE and equipment designs, and have been excluded from other career development opportunities.
In addition to this, women still to this day battle the ongoing problem of sexual harassment.
Worldwide women are 134 years from closing the gap, according to the latest World Economic Forum’s statistics.
But we are more than just ambulance workers. The fact that in our lifetimes we won’t live to be seen as truly equal is shocking. It affects every facet of our lives – work and non-work. It’s time to take swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality, inclusivity and break down systemic barriers now. We have the ability and opportunity to #AccelerateAction for equality. It’s time to #AccelerateAction to speed up progress now!
