Ambulance Victoria involvement in COVID-19 cluster testing
Today, 25 June 2020, the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) was contacted by Ambulance Victoria (AV) and advised that paramedics had been requested to assist with infield testing for COVID19. In response to a recent increase in COVID19 cases the Victorian Government have requested the Alfred hospital conduct testing in ‘hotspots’ where clusters of cases have emerged.
Staff from the Alfred hospital will be conducting the tests on symptomatic patients. AV have been requested to provide support by conducting tests on asymptomatic patients. Training in testing procedures will be conducted by the Alfred hospital.
AV have advised that participation in this testing program will be completely voluntary.
Members who are not comfortable participating should advise AV that they do not wish to take part if they are requested to do so.
The VAU have requested a full risk assessment be conducted of the testing program and shared with the VAU to ensure that our members are kept safe.
If you have taken part in the testing program, we would like to hear about your experiences. Please make contact at [email protected] and type “AV – TESTING PROGRAM” in the subject line.
