The VAU is seeking Expressions of Interest from VAU members from the Ambulance Victoria (AV) Region of the Ambulance Industry to be appointed as a Committee member (State Councillor) of the VAU in accordance with Rule 57 of the VAU Rules.

The Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) is governed by the VAU Committee of Management (State Council) which comprises 45 elected members from across the Victorian ambulance industry including:

  • The VAU Executive (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Assistant Secretary).
  • Zone 1 – 18 Ambulance Victoria (AV) members from the Metropolitan region.
  • Zone 2 – 15 AV members from Rural Regions.
  • Zone 3 – 4 members from Private Patient Transport
  • Zone 4 – 3 members from ESTA.

The State Council is the leadership of the VAU where the most important decisions are democratically discussed, debated, and determined by vote. All State Councillors share in the collective responsibility of ensuring that the VAU complies with the relevant act and rules.

The VAU is seeking Expressions of Interest from VAU members from the Ambulance Victoria (AV) Region of the Ambulance Industry to be appointed as a Committee member (State Councillor) of the VAU in accordance with Rule 57 of the VAU Rules.

Two positions are available for Zone 1 (Metropolitan AV) representatives on the Committee and one position is available for Zone 2 (Rural AV) representatives on the Committee. These positions have recently been vacated by Michael Dunn and David Redmond, who are retiring from AV and Bracha Rafael is on extended leave. On behalf of the VAU, we would like to sincerely thank Bracha, Michael and David for their many years of service to the union and its members.

There is also one position available for Zone 3 (Private Patient Transport) representatives on the committee. This position has been recently vacated following the resignation of Lindsey Booth who has become a paramedic with AV. On behalf of the VAU, we would like to sincerely thanks Lindsey for her amazing advocacy for union members in patient transport.

Criteria for eligibility

To be eligible to fill a casual vacancy and become a Committee member you must:

  • be a financial member of the VAU; and
  • be employed in the Zone to which the casual vacancy relates (e.g. Zone 1, Zone 2 or Zone 3).

Expressions of Interest

The Committee (State Council) in considering Expressions of Interest for appointment to a casual vacancy from eligible members will look to the following attributes:

  • a passionate employee advocate;
  • available to attend bi-monthly meetings of the VAU Committee (State Council);
  • able to keep your colleagues informed of relevant matters that arise at these Committee meetings and raising matters before the Committee on behalf of your colleagues;
  • willing to seek advice and/or support with matters that may arise in the workplace.
  • Previous experience as a VAU delegate is desirable but not essential.
