A recent video by the United Workers Union (UWU) stated that Ambulance Victoria Fleet Maintenance Officers (FMO’s) were left behind in the recent round of bargaining with Ambulance Victoria.

The primary claim put forward by FMO’s which was argued for by the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) was to achieve pay parity with Logistic Support Officers (LSOs). Previously, LSO’s were paid a higher wage because they were captured under the Administrative and Clerical Section of the AV enterprise agreement.

The Facts

Contrary to what is asserted in the video by UWU, as bargaining representative for employees covered by the proposed agreement, the VAU can confirm that:

  1. Under the new enterprise agreement, FMO’s have achieved pay parity with LSO’s. Under this arrangement the FMO’s will be paid higher than they would have been paid if they had remained at their underpinning rate, inclusive of the new Year 6 and Year 9 increments.
  2. FMO’s will be paid between $136 and $170 per week more and Fleet Maintenance Supervisors will be paid between $84 and $127 per week more under this new arrangement. This was clearly discussed in negotiations, documented in writing and appeared to be understood by all parties, including UWU who was a bargaining representative in those negotiations.

The proposed enterprise agreement will be circulated soon and FMO members will be able to see for themselves that their new rate of pay will be equivalent to the rate paid to LSO’s.

Members are always welcome to seek clarification from the VAU if they wish to be provided with facts.
