Manual Pressure Augmentation – PARAMEDIC SHOCKED
The Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) has just been informed that an ALS Paramedic was electrocuted while defibrillating a patient using Manual Pressure Augmentation (MPA) technique.
The member was shocked through the pads and was pushed back away from the patient by the shock. The member was assessed in hospital and was discharged a few hours later.
The VAU urgently contacted AV to stop the Augment trial until a proper investigation can be conducted. WorkSafe have also been informed.
The VAU advises members not to perform the MPA technique until further notice.
