The Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) is saddened by news announced today by RFDS. As of 1 July, RFDS will no longer have contracts in the Hume corridor and Gippsland and will be ceasing all HSV operations in those areas. It is anticipated that this will take full effect by 23 July 2023.

It is regrettable, to say the least, that RFDS are in this situation for the second time in four years. The VAU are very concerned for the welfare of any affected staff members.

Earlier, Danny Hill spoke with management at NPT who advised that they are recruiting in Wodonga, the Goulburn region and the Melbourne area which will hopefully offer relief to many of the affected RFDS members. They are encouraged to respond to NPT advertising currently  in ‘Seek’ which is looking for more staff in these areas.

Danny has also spoken to Health Select who have asked him to encourage members to enquire for work in the Gippsland region by following the links and directions on the Health Select website.

The VAU will continue to work with affected members and providers as the industry navigates through the effects of today’s news.
