Recently the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) has received several examples of unsafe work practices by Paramedic crews, from Fleet Maintenance Officers (FMO) and Logistic Support Officers (LSO).

These practices are placing FMOs and LSOs at high risk of coming into contact with soiled and contaminated equipment used by crews attending COVID19 cases.

Photographic evidence provided by our members shows several pieces of equipment that have been left unsealed and in single bags placing FMO and LSO members at risk of exposure to contamination.

To ensure the safety of support staff please ensure that you follow the work instructions on dealing with potentially contaminated equipment by:

  • Double bagging equipment in biohazard bags.
  • Sealing biohazard bags closed using tape
  • Completing appropriate paperwork and taping this to the outside of the bags.

We want to make sure that all members are safe from any cross-contamination in the workplace, so please be vigilant and look after each other.
