St John Bargaining Update: WAGES ON THE TABLE AT NEXT MEETING
As St John employees are aware, the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated has been bargaining with St John management, to establish the first Enterprise Agreement at St John for NEPT staff. The VAU calls on non-members to join up in order to have their say in bargaining and ensure a better deal for patient transport workers at St John.
Many members have asked what progress has been achieved up until now, especially in regard to wages. We will be discussing wages in more detail at the next meeting which is on Wednesday 6 July. Now that the Fair Work Commission has released its decision on the Award increase, the bargaining representatives are in a good position to talk about the future of wages for St John members over the next few years.
There has been a lot of discussion about other items in the Log of Claims, with agreement on some items as outlined in earlier bulletins. St John remains committed to its key claims including compulsory on call shifts and pre-rostered annual leave. The results of the survey conducted by the VAU show that these proposals are extremely unpopular with our members, which the bargaining representatives made clear at last month’s meeting. Unfortunately, progress in bargaining continues to be slowed by St John’s failure to provide meeting minutes, draft documents and other information in accordance with agreed timeframes.
We will have a more comprehensive report for members after the next meeting, including an update on St John’s position on wage increases.
Having your say in bargaining
The VAU reminds members who have not yet done so to nominate the VAU as their bargaining representative. Only members who have completed a nomination form will be able to vote on and take part in industrial action, which may be necessary to get the improvements in wages and conditions that you deserve. You can download this form FROM THE TOP OF THIS PAGE.
The VAU also calls on non-members to join up in order to have their say in bargaining and ensure a better deal for patient transport workers at St John.
