The Victorian Ambulance Union (VAU) would like to express our sincere condolences to the friends, family and workmates of the two police officers who were tragically killed on Tuesday in Porepunkah.

They were Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson (from Wangaratta) and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart (from St Kilda). A third officer was also injured.

The police members were on duty, working to keep the community safe. Tragically in the course of their work, two of their finest have been killed and another has suffered serious injuries.

On Wednesday, both the VAU and The Police Association Victoria (TPAV), spent some time with AV members who attended the scene as well as Police members at Wangaratta and other stations.

The feedback from police was that our members displayed the most extraordinary kindness, dignity and professionalism to the police members who died, as well as providing care to injured and distressed police officers under awful circumstances.

Today we received the attached letter from TPAV Secretary Wayne Gatt.

Please see attached.

Every member deserves to be commended for their efforts over recent days. Whether you were involved in the operation, dropped off some food or flowers to your local police, or just put the uniform back on after a horrible few days to attend other emergencies.

Well done to you all for your incredible work and for looking after your mates.

In solidarity
