The Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated (VAU) welcomes the tabling of the Triple Zero Victoria Bill 2023 and the proposal to replace the Emergency Services Telecommunication Authority (ESTA) with a new statutory authority named Triple Zero Victoria, with strengthened oversight and partnerships with other emergency services.

At this stage the VAU does not foresee any significant industrial changes that would have any impact on our members. But we will continue to watch this space carefully.

We are pleased to see that the Emergency Management Commissioner will have the ability to establish new performance standards, and an Operational Committee that draws on expertise from across the emergency services sector, including representatives from the ambulance service.

As soon as the Bill was tabled the VAU began lobbying Government for specific performance targets that improve the quality of the call-taking and dispatch processes. This includes introducing new quality standards that ensure dispatch coding aligns with patient acuity.

Members will be kept informed.
