On 1 May 2020, the VAU was informed by AV that one of our members had tested positive to COVID-19. Five other paramedics who have been in close contact with the member have subsequently been placed in isolation as a precaution.

The VAU wish to continue bargaining for the proposed agreement and do not accept that an impasse has been reached. In addition, we reject the unilateral claim that bargaining has come to an end. The VAU are waiting to receive a conciliation date from the FWC to progress bargaining.

The VAU considers that all time worked in excess of 38 hours per week for full-time employees should be paid at overtime rates. The VAU has lodged a dispute in the Fair Work Commission.

Under the AV AOD Policy and Procedure, hair shaft testing is only to be used when further testing is required in investigations into the suspected misappropriation of AV medications or where the previous samples (Saliva /Urine) have resulted in inconclusive results.
