The VAU is saddened by news announced today by RFDS. As of 1 July, RFDS will no longer have contracts in the Hume corridor and Gippsland and will be ceasing all HSV operations in those areas. It is anticipated that this will take full effect by 23 July 2023.

In November 2022, the VAU secured a review into the NEPT industry which will consider options for future procurement arrangements which include reintegrating NEPT back into Ambulance Victoria or new public sector agency.

The VAU were recently contacted by several members of Medical Edge Australia to address concerns they had with multiple aspects of their employment. The VAU wrote to MEA to raise these concerns and have since engaged in constructive discussions with the company which we believe will result in significant improvements for VAU members.

The VAU has received a large volume of complaints about AV’s recent recruitment processes. The VAU immediately intervened and insisted that AV use a proper and transparent process to select the best candidates. The VAU understands the process was then halted.

Members have been incorrectly told by Ambulance Victoria that their casual working hours will be reduced to 70 per month. The VAU has taken this up with workplace relations on Monday 3 April and the issue was corrected that day.

The effectiveness of Industrial Action cannot be underestimated, and we again thank our members for the way in which they have conducted themselves during this time. They have demonstrated how a determined and cohesive group can fight for a better deal for themselves, and all St John employees.

On 27 March 2023, the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated notified St John Ambulance Victoria of further industrial action in respect to enterprise bargaining. We encourage our members to continue industrial action, commence the new actions (but not until 0500 Friday 31 March).
