The VAU has continued to bargain with Ambulance Victoria for a new enterprise agreement to replace the Ambulance Victoria Enterprise Agreement 2020 which expires on 31 January 2024. To date there has been sixteen meetings. Today the parties discussed a key claim from VAU members - end of shift management.

The VAU has received a large volume of complaints about AV’s recent recruitment processes. The VAU immediately intervened and insisted that AV use a proper and transparent process to select the best candidates. The VAU understands the process was then halted.

Members have been incorrectly told by Ambulance Victoria that their casual working hours will be reduced to 70 per month. The VAU has taken this up with workplace relations on Monday 3 April and the issue was corrected that day.

The effectiveness of Industrial Action cannot be underestimated, and we again thank our members for the way in which they have conducted themselves during this time. They have demonstrated how a determined and cohesive group can fight for a better deal for themselves, and all St John employees.

On 27 March 2023, the Victorian Ambulance Union Incorporated notified St John Ambulance Victoria of further industrial action in respect to enterprise bargaining. We encourage our members to continue industrial action, commence the new actions (but not until 0500 Friday 31 March).

The VAU are very pleased to announce that we have reached in principle agreement about what changes will be incorporated into the new EA. The next step is for the agreement to go to a vote of the workforce. Before this occurs, both sides will be drafting wording to ensure that the document accurately reflects what was agreed at the bargaining table.

Following on from members voting emphatically to take part in industrial action the VAU has formally notified St John Ambulance of our intention to take protected industrial actions. The actions have been notified to commence from 6 March 2023 and are indefinite. Those actions are:

The VAU has received the results of the Protected Action Ballot conducted for St John employees in support of their application to take Industrial Action. There were 13 actions listed in the ballot and members voted YES to all of them.

On Tuesday 8 February the VAU met with representatives from Ambulance Victoria to begin negotiations on a new EBA. These meetings are likely to occur twice each week for the duration of 2023 until an agreement is reached.

The VAU received over 700 submissions from members, which have been collated and presented to the VAU State Council, who have endorsed the log of claims. The VAU have now served the finalised log of claims on AV and the Victorian Government.
